Jamaican songstress and season five winner of The Voice,  Tessanne Chin proved her star power and  displayed stunning vocal range while performing at the sold out 'Voices In Concert' held at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday night.

For more than an hour she served up a tasty musical treat of reggae, soul and pop including her first hit single Hideaway, Stronger, Redemption Song, My Kind Of Love,Tumbling Down and Try for the 3,000 plus fans who were there to see her perform.

R&B legend Percy Sledge -- famous for his hit "When a Man Loves a Woman" -- died at home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after a long battle with cancer.

Percy took his signature song to #1 in 1966. It was his debut single and went on to become an international hit. It was re-released in the U.K. in 1987 and still made it to #2 on the charts.

Michael Bolton's cover of the song also hit #1 in 1991 -- and it's one of Hollywood's favorite tunes ... appearing on the soundtrack of well over 20 movies.

Percy had a few other hits -- "Warm and Tender Love" and "Take Time to Know Her" -- but nothing that matched his first blockbuster hit.

He continued performing until about a year ago -- and this Thursday marks the 49th anniversary of the release of "When a Man Loves a Woman."

The Jamaica Fire Brigade says a big fire is now raging at the Riverton City dump in St Andrew. 

Emeleo Ebanks, the brigades public relations officer, says three units are now responding to the blaze. 

He says the fire is restricted to a tyre cell and that it was "pretty big" 

Ebanks says details such as how and when the fire started are yet to be determined. 

This latest fire comes 12 days after Local Government Minister Noel Arscott declared that Jamaica will never see another major fire at the dump.

At least two church denominations have decried dancehall artiste Ishawna's latest single, Glory, as being "sacrilegious and blasphemous".

The song, released over the Easter weekend, sparked a firestorm of criticism online because of the lyrics and racy content. In the song, Ishawna compares the sexual act to being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Yesterday, a beaming Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, after greeting Obama with her characteristic warm Jamaican welcome hug, told journalists that she had invited him to Jamaica when she first met him a few years ago and he promised that he would come..

According to Simpson Miller, he reminded her of his promise as he greeted her, saying: "See, I promised you and I am here".

President Obama made a stop at the Bob Marley Museum at Hope Road in St Andrew, shortly after arriving in the island on a working visit. The museum is located at Marley's former home.

A former Democratic congressional aide who pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of two women received no jail time because the judge believes he has suffered enough in an unrelated acid attack that required a surgically-inserted rod to be inserted in his forehead.

Donny Ray Williams, Jr., a former staff director for the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs subcommittee, admitted drugging and sexually abusing two female colleagues in December. He also pleaded guilty to making threats.

Prosecutors agreed to give Williams a plea deal in part because they feel he has suffered as the result of an acid attack that left him in debt and ended his political career.

About a year after his arrest on the sexual assault charges, a man who Williams believes was the ex-boyfriend of a woman he was dating threw acid in his face.
In court, his lawyers said he spent a month in the hospital, is blind in one eye, and had to undergo several life-threatening surgeries to correct the damage from the disfiguring attack. Williams still has burns on his face and a large protrusion on his head where doctors surgically inserted a rod to stretch his skin.

In a letter read in court on April 3 at his sentencing for the sexual assault case, one of Williams victims told how she met the defendant when she was an intern in 2010, and thought he would help her advance her career on the Hill.

Instead, the woman wrote, He gave me a random dose of drugs and risked my life, according to the Washington Post. The accuser moved away after the attack but she said Williams continued to harass her. Williams initially denied the allegations and insisted the relationships were consensual.

As part of his plea deal, prosecutors asked a judge to approve a 4-and-a-half year suspended sentence. Williams will remain a free man as long as he stays out of trouble. He also got five years of supervised probation, will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years and undergo counseling

Suge Knight appeared in court Wednesday and told the judge Sheriff's deputies were forcing him into a wheelchair to create a public spectacle and embarrass him.

Suge's lawyer, Matt Fletcher, went even further, saying the authorities were doing this to make it look like a scene out of "Silence of the Lambs."

The judge told Suge he was informed by deputies the wheelchair was necessary because Suge told them he was partially paralyzed but Suge denied ever saying that. The judge then made it clear Suge was free to walk on his own power.

As for the hearing ... nothing happened. The case was continued.

Bill Cosby may have admitted under oath to sexually assaulting women ... at least that's what one alleged victim believes and is now trying to unearth documents to prove it.

Tamara Green claims Cosby drugged and groped her back in the '70s. The statute of limitations has long since run, but Green sued Cosby last December for defamation because he repeatedly said she was lying -- that it never happened.

Green has filed new legal docs -- obtained by TMZ -- in which she is trying to force Cosby to release his deposition in a lawsuit filed by another accuser -- Andrea Constand. She sued Cosby in 2005 and the case settled. The docs were all sealed.

Green believes Cosby may have admitted in his deposition to sexually assaulting other women, including Green herself.

The body of a woman believed to be the wife of a popular deejay Merciless was discovered on Friday at her home in Longville Park, Clarendon. It is suspected that she may have committed suicide by ingesting pills.

Loop News understands that a few minutes after 11 am on Good Friday, a neighbour saw the womans body on the floor of her home with what appeared to be pills nearby. The police were called to the scene and the body removed. No foul play is suspected at this time.

When contacted, Merciless, who appeared distraught, said that he did not want to comment on the matter

After weeks of speculation, Senator Sandrea Falconer, minister with responsibility for information, has confirmed that Opposition Leader Andrew Holness will participate in the visit of United States President Barack Obama. 

Senator Falconer says Holness will be invited to at least one of the President's events. 

Today's announcement follows the controversial social media post made by North West St Ann Member of Parliament, Dr. Dayton Campbell. Campbell posted a picture of an invitation to a town hall meeting for young leaders, which Obama is expected to attend on Thursday, and he questioned whether Holness had been invited. 

He then went on to say that while Holness is young, the Opposition Leader is "not a good youth". 

Campbell was condemned for the post. In a response hours later, Campbell dismissed the critics, labellingthem as "moral police".

Wayne Albright -- who's been locked up since 2000 for attempted sexual assault -- claims Florida needs protection from the couple he calls "Meat Whistles" and "Moose Knuckles."

Albright shows abject contempt for the famous duo, declaring the only tolerable Kardashian is Rob, who's "eating himself out of house and home, no doubt from the shame he feels as a result of what Kim has done to the Kardashian name."

The prisoner is specifically targeting Kim and Kanye from stepping foot in Florida, and he wants to "ban these two Moose Knuckles from appearing on any television programs aired in the state of Florida, unless it's Court TV and they're on trial for posing as a famous couple."

Albright seeks a temporary restraining order, telling the judge, "You have your work cut out for you ... so what do you say? Make us all proud."

A white South Carolina police officer has been charged with murder for shooting an apparently unarmed black man 5 times as he ran away -- and video has just surfaced of the horrific incident.

The victim is Walter Scott -- a 50-year-old man who was pulled over in North Charleston on Saturday for having a broken taillight on his Mercedes-Benz. According to police, Scott ran away from Officer Michael Slager during the stop  ... Slager ran after him, and then fired his Taser.

Police say the Taser did not stop Scott and the men wrestled. The video -- obtained and first posted by the New York Times -- begins right after the scuffle. Scott is seen running away from Slager, who opens fire 8 times. Scott was hit 3 times in the back, once in the butt, and once in the ear.

In his first communication after the shooting ... Slager said, "Shots fired and the subject is down. He took my Taser."

The NY Times slowed down and enhanced a portion of the video after the shooting -- and it appears Slager dropped something next to Scott's body. 

Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.

The FBI and Justice Dept. are investigating the incident.

Bruce Jenner will put his male persona to rest for good when he appears on Diane Sawyer's two hour special, sources connected to Bruce and the production tell TMZ.

We're told Jenner views the show as "a farewell to Bruce." He will "present himself" as a woman publicly for the first time. But it's not about his look -- it's about his mental state and his journey.

Our sources say Bruce does NOT reveal his new name, or dress like a woman on camera. Nevertheless, we're told Bruce sees the interview as the most significant event associated with his sex change -- more significant than the surgical procedures that will get him there. 

Bruce will chronicle his life from age 5, where he identified as a woman. Jenner -- who did numerous interviews for the special over a period of time -- talks about the difficulties he's had in life living as a man but not feeling like one. He also spends significant time talking about the impact his decision to have a sex change has had on his family.

Bruce realizes he has already become a target for people who either don't understand why he's transitioning or those who have outright contempt for it. But he's doing the interview to both free himself and educate the public so others in his position don't have to go through the pain.

Our sources say some of the most compelling moments in the show -- which airs on ABC on April 24th -- are when Bruce talks about "mundane things" that will change in his new life -- day-to-day things that will change.
