Biography

NC Dread is a Singjay and songwriter based in Cape Town, South Africa. His genre of music is dancehall reggae.  He is inspired by the likes of Wayne Wonder, Vegas, Mavado etc

NC Dread has always been in love with singing for as long as he can remember. He started out singing in church choirs or accapella groups that harmonized under the influence of Az Yet and Boys2Men. However, when he was introduced to reggae, it was there where he found his passion for this genre of music. His passion for the music drove him to write and perform songs wherever the opportunity presented itself. It was through a producer, Awakhiwe LaSoul Productions Mbuyazwe, based in Cape Town, that his dream of recording was realised.  This is where he recorded the smash hit single Always. He subsequently recorded other songs that were included in his promotional mixtape entitled THIS IS WHO I AM where he is introducing himself to the people as an artist and what he is all about. The mixtape was a huge success featuring the number 1 hits Always, Take you away and True God, which have and are still being played in major radio stations and clubs in South Africa, Malawi, Namibia, Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, UK, Jamaica etc These songs are available for free download on his facebook page, soundcloud or reverbnation.

Based on the success of his mixtape, he has established more contacts internationally and has collaborated with international producers in his recent work which include hit singles I Know and Games which have been playlisted by prominent deejays worldwide and also made it to number 1 in local radio charts. He was chosen to represent Africa on a rhythm called Fallin Leaves Riddim produced in by DJ Stewie based in Jamaica and it features a line-up of Jamaican artists. He once again produced an internationally appealing and well received single based on the rhythm entitled What you do. This has expanded his fan base far reaching across the globe, as many deejays and radio stations in each continent, confirmed the playlisting of his song.

He has recently (26 November 2014) released, on his birthday, a brand new tune entitled Dem cah stop mi is a testimony to his unwavering focus on making it in the reggae music scene. The song is based on the successful rhythm called Mullet Bay Riddim produced by one of the biggest producers to come out of Jamaica, the Fra Twinz Music alongside DJ Outkast. The song has since been played on Jamaicas ZIPFM103 and an article published on the Jamaicas Star newspaper on the artist and his new hit song.

NC Dread has his eyes set on the world and hence his deliberate use of English in his songs. His intention or vision is to create music which all will relate to ALL despite race, origin, geographical location, culture etc Above all, he hopes to be part of African artists that will turn international focus on African reggae music!
