McPherson Disappointed With Run Despite Spot In 400m Final

Published: Sunday August 11, 2013

Jamaica's rookie quarter-miler Stephenie McPherson left the Luzhniki Stadium track in disappointment despite qualifying for the 400m final at the IAAF World Championships of Athletics, in her first taste of senior international competition.

In her semi-final, ran earlier today, McPherson came off the final turn in front of American Francena McCorory, 49.86, and Russia's Antonina Krivoshapka,49.99, but ended up crossing the line in third place, also with a time of 49.99.

The result meant that McPherson, who is conditioned by Stephen Francis at the MVP Track Club, like her compatriot Novlene Williams-Mills, booked her spot to tomorrow's 12:15pm (Jamaica time) final as one of the fastest non-automatic  qualifiers.

However, the youngster frowned on her run, vowing to do better in tomorrow's medalround

"I thought I had that race. I didn't realise that anyone was that close, I am really upset," McPherson told The Gleaner shortly after her event. "But I am in the final and that was what I wanted so I will just have to come and do better there. Anything can happen once you are in the final."

McPherson is the fastest Jamaican in the 400m this year with a time of 49.92 seconds.
