There was a startling revelation in the Spanish Town Petty Sessions Court yesterday when a complainant revealed that he had spent a total of $1.2 million in five years on a child he never saw.
It was also alleged in court that the man was threatened by the so-called mother after he demanded to see the child he has been maintaining since conception without seeing the baby even once.
The court was informed that a total of $1.2 million was given through monthly payments to take care of the child. The man is said to have started paying after learning that the accused had given birth to a 'nice little boy.'
When the man appeared in court there was an outburst of laughter after the allegations were revealed. It was said that the child was supposedly born in 2007, but could not be accounted for. The man got fed up with the excuses and insisted that he saw his child. It is reported that he was threatened when that request was made.
After he visited the woman recently, he was told the child recently returned from rural Jamaica and is now in England. He was threatened with violence when he complained. "
She tell mi dat she wi tek a machete and chop mi to death," said the complainant.
After hearing the story, the man was asked why he was so naïve in believing there was a child.
Both parties were advised to seek counselling in the matter.
