Polarizing Dancehall artist, Adidja Vybz Kartel Palmer has once against stirred up controversy with comments he made in a recent interview with a U.S magazine.
In this months issue of the Fader Magazine, Kartel spoke out on various topics including his business aspirations & his new album, Kingston Story. However, its comments regarding his Portmore Empire protégés that have raised some eyebrows. In said interview, Vybz Kartel claims that he owns everything about his artists.
The self-proclaimed World Boss told Fader Magazine, I sign all my artists. I sign all them recording, them publishing, them booking, them everything. If them eat, I gots to know about it. If they take a shower, I gots to know about it. Though its unknown the tone of voice that Kartel was speaking in when he made the comments, they add fuel to the fire that has been burning regarding rumors of his treatment of his Portmore Empire protégés.
Over the last month, former business associate, Corey Todd parted ways with Di Teacha. Soon thereafter, former protégés JahVinci, Merital Family & Doza Medicine as well as Empire producer, Notnice all left the Gaza group; citing similar reasons that Vybz Kartel has controlled various aspects of their musical careers. JahVinci claimed a lack of booking & promotional opportunities with the group, Merital Family implied that Kartel pocketed all proceeds from their 2009 hit song My Money Ha Ha. & Notnice is considering suing Kartel after he alleges the Portmore Empire deejay sent men to his house to steal his production equipment. He also is seeking compensation for projects he worked on with Kartel following said incident.
Doza Medicine announced his formal departure last week; citing lack of opportunities & that Kartel has a controlling personality and was paranoid.
