(Reuters) - A suspected Maryland bank robber was fatally shot on Friday after he slipped on the ice as he tried to make his getaway with a hostage, police said.
Six people were inside the bank when Takoma Park police arrived at the scene, five of whom escaped.
The suspected robber made his way out of the Takoma Park Capitol One bank with a female hostage as a dye bomb exploded, media helicopter footage showed.
He appeared to slip on the ice, allowing the hostage to run free. Police quickly converged on him and six officers opened fire, killing the unidentified suspect.
