The police in Manchester are probing the possibility that employees at a post office in the parish are linked to the stealing of several packages on the weekend.
THE STAR was informed by an investigator who claimed that the situation was one which arose this time of year, every year, for as long as he can remember.
According to the detective constable, one person turned up to collect a package yesterday only to discover that more than $500,000 was missing from it.
The cop said the victim claimed the funds was in the form of US dollars and a cheque.
"We now have a number of persons turning up claiming that their packages were stolen or things stolen from it," he said before adding, "this is strange. This is something that happens every year around this time. We believe persons from there are doing it, there is some foul play."
The police say those responsible carried out the acts between Friday and Sunday night.
Employees reportedly turned up at the post office, which is located at Race Course Road, on Monday morning and later contacted the police reporting that it was broken into.
According to the police, a large number of packages and envelopes were ransacked.
Some of the envelopes, the police said, were neatly cut open and would have gone undetected had they not been examined carefully.
These would have pose a problem to persons who turn up and complain that their packages were robbed.
"This is really mysterious, if even the post office was broken into, they would have to know what envelopes to look out for," the detective explained, as he tried to support his belief that the acts may very well include the help of persons working there.
