Clansman leader punches cop?

Tesha Miller, the reputed leader of the St Catherine-based Clansman gang and Keifa O'Gilvie, son of Justin O'Gilvie, a business associate of Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, have been charged with assaulting a police constable.

The men pleaded not guilty in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Both the co-accused were represented by their respective attorneys who entered not guilty pleas for their clients. Miller's attorney was Valerie Neita-Robertson.

The court heard that on July 14, during a police search of the lock-up where both men were being held, O'Gilvie was seen acting suspiciously. He was subsequently searched and a cellphone was found on his person.

A policeman who attempted to confiscate the cellphone, was reportedly punched in the face. Miller allegedly joined in the assault and the cop was again punched in the face, the court heard.

The court also heard that after the incident the policeman was threatened.

O'Gilvie's attorney told the court his client admitted to having the cellphone, but denied assaulting the policeman. He said O'Gilvie was only 24 and had no previous convictions and reminded the court that he had surrendered to the police after he was deemed to be a person of interest.

Likewise, Miller's attorney Valerie Neita-Robertson reminded the court that her client had also surrendered to police.

Despite efforts by both attorneys to secure bail, this was denied. Both accused return to court on September 2 for trial.
