Although it was the first staging, the Pegasus Tweet Up was a success when it was held last Friday at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston.

Prudence Simpson, director of sales and marketing at the hotel, was more than pleased with the turnout for the lyme that was held for persons who are on the social-networking website, Twitter. Moving forward, she said that was something that The Jamaica Pegasus was happy to be part of.

"To go forward we (at The Jamaica Pegasus) must embrace social media. All of you who are here today are very special to us. We need to get young people to start coming through our doors, and what better way to do that than with a tweet-up?" she said to the gathering.

General manager of the hotel, Eldon O. Bremmer, said they prided themselves with being the first to host a tweet-up in the country.

"Being the first official tweet-up in Jamaica, we have to say welcome. Pegasus has always prided itself in being the first of many things," he said.

Like they were before the short speeches, the guests continued to chat, take pictures and write updates about the event on their Twitter account that were shown on the Twitter Fountain screen.

As they ate the food that was provided and mingled, they were also treated to music that was being played by Colin Hinds. He played songs like Missy Elliot's One Minute Man, Ne-Yo's Sexy Love and Buju Banton's Browning and Black Woman. In no time, he switched the pace to more recent songs like Vybz Kartel's Slow Motion and Christopher Martin's Vibes Is Right.

There was also a short performance by Tanto Blacks, who made regular reference to Twitter while he was on Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall earlier this year. He did songs like Ticklish Mi and Anything Yuh Want. However, he made a blunder when he said, "Tek mi picture deh, Facebook." Nonetheless, the audience seemed to enjoy his performance.
