MAVADO VS TUPAC

Mavado VS Tupac

In the world of music, regardless of the genre, everyday there are new songs and new beats are released. A staple question in any artist interview is: Where do you find your inspiration? Do muses really exist and whisper lyrics and melodies in the artists ear? This could be a hypothesis among others. Some artists write tunes related to the current events in society and some artists sing about their lifes struggles, pain, and joy. It is certain that there are artists who are considered The Trendsetters and who have an incredible amount of influence on the artists of our generation. For instance, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Tupac & many more. The artists of the past set the example for the future.

Artists from all generations often pay tribute to the trendsetters by covering their biggest hits like Woman No Cry by Bob Marley and covered by the Fugees in 1996 or Human Nature by Michael Jackson and covered by Taurus Riley in 2008.

However, some artists who seem to be very influenced by the trendsetters do not really pay tribute to them. I am sure that it already happened to you to listen to a track and you would hear a sentence that reminds you of another track your heard before but you cannot remember who sings it nor what is the title. Nowadays there are artists who copy old songs lyrics, rearrange them and add their own flavor then take all the credit. After some researches, we found out that Mavado is one of this kind of artist.

Today, Mavado is quite popular with his unique voice and outstanding vocal style but unfortunately he is not that genuine. You all remember his single Even If They Kill Me released a few years ago. There is a particular sentence he says in the chorus, Mama even if they kill me, dont cry they could never take the G from me.  Now lets turn back the hand of time to the early 90s when Tupac was still in the game, do you remember the Tupacs song entitled Life of a G? Well, Tupacs chorus goes like this, Tell mama dont cry, cause even if they kill me, they can never take the life of a real G. Dont these two tracks -Even If They Kill Me and Life of a G- lyrics look similar? You could say it is just a coincidence but, I wont stop here to prove you that I am not wrong.

Now lets compare the lyrics of Mavados song named Dying and Tupacs track named So Many Tears. I added a snippet of the verse of each track so that you could hear how similar the lyrics of these two tracks are. And for those who cannot play the samples, I wrote the lyrics.

Tupac So Many Tears

Back in elementary,
I thrived on misery
Left me alone
I grew up amongst a dying breed
Inside my mind couldnt find a place to rest
Until I got that Thug Life tatted on my chest
Tell me can you feel me?
Im not livin in the past, you wanna last
Be tha first to blast, remember
Kato No longer with us hes deceased
Call on the sirens, seen him murdered in the streets
Now rest in peace
Is there heaven for a G?
Remember me
So many homies in the cemetery, shed so many tears

Mavado Dying

Back in penitentiary
Long gone misery
Left me alone, I grew up
Amongst the mad breed
So my mind
Couldnt find a place to rest
With me got this thug plaque
Tattoo on my chest
Nigger never sleep
When am living in da past
Stare in the lights
Mi pop off and first to blast
He knew my father
He was a gangsta in the streets
But now hes gone
Mi deh ya so still a plead
Till him rest in peace
Now am heading for the treach
I remember me
So many homies in the cemetery
Seem as if I am a missionary
But when am gone
Know my momma
Gonna cry for me

Like many other artists out there, it seems like Mavado borrowed some lyrics from someone else. Still, I want you to know that the intention of this article is not to belittle or discredit Mavado as an artist in any way, but to show you that Tupac served as a role model to Mavado, and I bet that Tupac is not the only artist who influences him. Biggie, being a huge icon of rap music too, has probably inspired Mavado as well.

Nah lie...

as I think about this I realize that this has probably been happening for a very long time

I give these artists credit and I wonder how they can come out with lyrics after lyrics after lyrics so fast.

Turns out the lyrics are derived from other artists.

To the people that infer that it doesnt matter. it does.

Nothing wrong with the influence but with the tune dying as an example, the lyrics were doctored.

No thought to the process just retwistthe lyrics and put it out there.

Thats not paying tribute and respecting the artist, that's straight Libel.

At least be like Sanchez and do the full tune...at least he gets more respect rather than switch up a few lrcs and act like seh a original ting.
