Percival Noel James Patterson, (born 10 April 1935) was the sixth Prime Minister of Jamaica from 1992 to 2006. Until February 2006 he was the leader of the JamaicanPeople's National Party (PNP). The new PNP leader, Portia Simpson-Miller, took over as Prime Minister on 30 March 2006. Patterson was Jamaica's longest-serving Prime Minister, serving exactly 14 years..
PJ WAS IN OFFICE FOR 14 YEARS AND IT DIDNT CHANGE ONE BIT.
I FEEL JAMAICA NEED TO HAVE A GOVERNMENT SYSTEM LIKE THE U.S.A. WHERE IT GIVES THE LEADERS A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF YEARS TO RUN..
Jamaica gained their independency in August 1962 thats 48 years ago and the country only had EIGHT Leaders...
agreed Shem, this isn't the first time I've heard this argument. Cause ALL OF THEM ARE TOO DAM CORRUPTED it gives an opportunity for someone fresh to come in, instead of dealing with the same person ova and ova. But yu know what Shem a six a 1 half dozen a di odda cause its still the same party they would come from so.......
WE THE PEOPLE APPOINTED THEM. EVEN IF WE DON'T VOTE MONEY IS USE AS WEAPON TO DRAW THEM IN. WITHOUT MONEY THERE IS NO CAMPAIGN. BUT WITH DADS, DAN AND RESPECTABLE GUN MAN THEY CAN WIN AN ELECTION OVER AND OVER AS LONG AS THEY SUPPORT THE POWERS THAT APPOINTED THEM THEIR. EVERYBODY WHA BE DADZ, DAN AND POWERMAN. JAH NUH LOVE JAMROCK LWAYS, BUT THE WHOLE GOP HAVE TO GO AND EVER PERSON THAT IS APPOINTED UNDER THEM.
well what can i say....we shouldn;t have had one PM in our history.....i feel like Jamaica should still be a dependent country and we would in a lot better position right now......for ex. Cayman Island
I'm glad someone with some god damn sense would actually post something useful to this site. I totally agree with you on that one Shem! All politicians major concern is how much they can full there own pockets before they leave the seats. If you shorten there lifespan in power, it will most likely lead to less corruption. However, I believe that we need younger and more up to date people to run in Government. Technology, Tourism, Finance, Sports and Agriculture are the major sections that need improvement in General in the Caribbean region, and we need people how are on the future side of developing the country. We have too much old farts who think they smell good and don't know %&%* about technology. Hell, can't even put on a PC, ruling ower country and talking about technology is important. They methods of supremacy are outdated and old fashion.
Yeh man me agree wid dat....also think they should implement the voting college system like the US.....This would put an end to the garrison ting.....cuh now they dont have to depend on winning constituencies. the voting of representatives would be totally independent of the voting in of prime minister.
Let me explain.....
the Prime Minister will be chosen from a list of individuals who are supported by a particular party....He/She would have to basically win their own election by amassing the most votes based on a similar system to the US.
The ministers would be like the congressmen....they will have to win to represent different constituencies....So a JLP rep can win the Prime Minister election while having more PNP representatives in the HOUSE becase the two elections are independent of each other...
Advantages of that is that Even if a JLP rep is the prime minister and he has the supreme position in the house....the opposition can still hold a strong presence in the house....forcing positive debating and a fairer system
All in all i agree with Shem....just added a few more which would complete the system
8 is alot for 48 years i find cause in america only 8 years per person and if it was like that in jamaica it just would of been 6 priminister since ..... wat about countries like grenada - 36 years independance an 4 elected priministers...
