WARNING residents of Tivoli Gardens and Denham Town in West Kingston that it has "no desire to engaged in armed conflict", the police today released photographs of residents building what authorities say are military-style fortifications, complete with sandbags and razor wire.

"The Police are reminding all citizens that the setting-up of barricades is illegal as the security forces must have unfettered access to pursue their lawful duties in any community in Jamaica. The police are urging the residents of Tivoli Gardens and Denham Town to remove the barricades currently established in these communities," said a release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) today.

Residents are seeking to protect local don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, who currently faces a warrant for his arrest. Coke is wanted for extradition to the United States alleged on gun and drug trafficking charges.

Police are again appealing to residents to contact police if they need assistance and to provide any information they might have. Persons can call Police Control at 119 or senior duty officers at 927-3168 and 946-1248.
