A man, who the St Catherine North police say has been behind a spate of murders and shootings in the Gordon Pen community in Spanish Town, Jamaica was killed in an alleged shootout with the security forces.

Hes 22-year-old Michael Christopher Burton, who the police say was a breakaway member of the One Order Gang.

Superintendent of the Division, Assan Thompson, says a team was on operation around 9 a.m. yesterday morning in the Marl Road area of the community, when on approaching a group of men, the police were fired on.

Superintendent Thompson says the police returned the fire and the men ran into bushes and headed towards the bank of the Rio Cobre.

He says the police gave chase and another gun battled ensued.

Burton was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to the police, a magazine containing seven 9milimetre cartridges was found beneath his body.

In the meantime, the St. Catherine North police are seeking the publics help in locating two persons of interest.
