‘Dudus’ issue impacts Airline bookings

The Christopher Dudus Coke extradition affair has begun to impact the Jamaican airline industry.

Operator of Jamaica Air Shuttle, Chris Reid, says he has been forced to move two of his Beach 99 aircraft from the Tinson Pen aerodrome to the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) for safe keeping.

Jamaica Air Shuttle flies between Montego Bay and Kingston.

According to Mr Reid, the Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) has warned that its unable to offer the required security at Tinson Pen as the facility neighbours a number of volatile communities.

Since Prime Minister Bruce Goldings admission in Parliament about the Manatt affair last Tuesday, airline bookings have plummeted as no one wants to travel to Kingston, said Mr. Reid.

He says so far, Jamaica Air Shuttle has lost US$8,000 or J$712,000 per day.

Meanwhile, officials at the Norman Manley International Airport say they have been tracking the developing Manatt, Phelps and Phillips matter.

However, they say the tense moments have not caused any noticeable difference in the number of arrivals into that facility.
