LOS ANGELES, May 20, 2010 (AFP) -- A Los Angeles judge issued an arrest warrant for Lindsay Lohan yesterday after the troubled actress failed to appear for a court hearing related to her 2007 drink-driving case.

Lohan, 23, had been ordered to appear before Judge Marsha Revel to explain allegations that she has had not completed a set number of alcohol education classes stipulated under the terms of her probation.

However a lawyer for Lohan said the actress remained stranded at the Cannes Film Festival in the south of France after having her passport stolen.

Judge Revel was unimpressed and ordered Lohan's arrest when she returns to the United States.

"She should have made sure she either didn't go to Cannes or made sure to be back two days earlier," Revel said at Beverly Hills Courthouse.

A bail amount of 100,000 dollars was set for Lohan. "If she doesn't bail out she'll be in jail," Revel warned.

The judge also ordered Lohan -- who has been photographed extensively this week enjoying the Cannes party circuit -- not to drink alcohol.

She must also be fitted with an electronic bracelet which monitors alcohol intake and submit to random drug testing.

Lohan's attorney Shawn Chapman Holley told reporters that Lohan had intended to attend Thursday's hearing before being stuck at Cannes.

Holley also defended Lohan's decision to attend Cannes but would not say if the actress had traveled to France against her advice.

Revel had already extended Lohan's probation by one year at a hearing in October to address claims the actress had failed to attend enough alcohol education classes.

Lohan was arrested for driving under the influence in May 2007. After a stay in rehab, she was caught two months later for drunk driving and cocaine possession. The arrests led to her serving a mere 84 minutes in jail. She was also sentenced to 10 hours of community service.

The queen of Hollywood nights and a favourite target of the paparazzi, the former Disney child star was once considered one of the most promising actresses of her generation.
