Security Forces awaiting court’s decision before entering Tivoli

The Minister of National Security in Jamaica, Senator Dwight Nelson, says the security forces are now waiting on the courts to decide the way forward before an attempt is made to enter the Tivoli Gardens community.

Lawyers for west
Kingston strongman, Christopher Dudus Coke, yesterday filed a motion challenging the arrest warrant, which was issued on Tuesday for him to face extradition proceedings in court.

Residents in the Tivoli Gardens community have since mounted barricades, blocking the entrances to the
community.

Senator Nelson says the police will do all in their power in an attempt to diffuse the situation in a non-violent manner.

He says he will gladly welcome the intervention of any church or civic group in mediating the dispute.

Senator Nelson also says he has not received any information that the residents of west Kingston have used electrical power lines in their blockades.
