An eight-year-old girl is now in hospital after gunmen sprayed a house in Gordon Pen, St Catherine, with bullets on Tuesday night.

Reports reaching THE STAR are that about 11:30 p.m. the child was at home with her family when gunmen struck. The men are said to have fired a barrage of shots at the house.

Following the shooting it was revealed that the child was shot and injured.

Meanwhile, a labourer was shot and killed by gunmen in the community about 4:30 p.m. yesterday.

Police reports are that Nicholas Linval Ormsby, 26, was on a construction site at Marl Road when the incident occurred.

Ormsby is reported to have been approached by a group of men who shot him repeatedly. He died on the spot.

The St Catherine North Homicide Unit is investigating the murder, which brings to 86 the number of persons killed since the start of the year in the division. This number is 36 more than the corresponding period last year.
