"Slave master never knew in a million year

Say the ghetto youths woulda turn millionaire

Say dem lock off the light and the pipe down here

Ghetto youths hold up your head and don't have no fear

Look pon mi face and tell mi how mi face look

A bet yuh never see tha face ya pon Facebook

Because I am not intimate with the Internet."

The above lyrics are some of the sentiments echoed in the collaboration titled Nutten Nah Gwaan by Wasp and DASECA's first lady Raine Seville. In a country that is plagued with violence, turmoil, hardships and sufferation, and the need for entertainers to be more socially aware, these two entertainers have risen to the challenge, collaborated their voices and penned this conscious song that speaks not only to those who are suffering in Jamaica but to those persons who are able to effect or mobilise change in this country.

The single premiered last Wednesday on ZJ Liquid's 'Fresh to Death' segment on ZIP FM. The DASECA-produced single surrounds the life and struggles in the ghetto. Wasp, who is known for anthems such as Cry Fi Dem and Unfair Officer, has a sombre tone as he discusses real-life situations to which Seville adds her melodious voice singing, "Nutten nah gwaan/a di word out inna di streets/we have no food to eat/we're stressed out and tired of begging/we have nowhere to go/but the bigger heads dem don't know."

Seville expressed that this single is very different to the other singles that she has released because this one focuses on what is going on within society today.

"The collab came about one day at Carib 5 when we expressed our respect for each other's music and talent and he mentioned the poss-ibility of doing a collab with me, which I agreed to. He then wrote the song and we presented it to DASECA, who loved it," Seville stated.

heavy rotation

The song has been receiving heavy rotation on the airwaves since its debut last Wednesday so the pair wanted to hastily add visual effects to the message. In a recent interview, Wasp commented, "People have been receptive of the message and so we decided to do the video to go with the lyrics to make the message that much more effective."

The video will be shot next Tuesday at a location to be announced and will be directed by Janelle, formerly of Scorpio 21.

The DASECA family and the fans aren't the only ones giving the song rave reviews as ZJ Liquid gave his two cents on air last Wednesday when he debuted the single. The zip jock stated, "Me have a Raine Seville and Wasp fi drop; mi rate da song yah and it's different from di everyday male and female collaboration wah talk about sex."

ZJ Liquid declared the track as the 'fresh to death song of the day'. This collaboration comes at a time when the nation is in social and economical upheaval and presents a positive message for all to consider.
