THE car belonging to youth activist Lawman Lynch was firebombed at his St Andrew home this morning.

Lynch, who has been vocal in advocacy issues, told Nationwide Radio this morning that he thinks the act was related to him voicing his opinion on television last night, about whether the prime minister should resign.

Lynch said he made a view the first time he was commenting publicly on the issue that Bruce Golding should resign as a consequence of his blunder in Parliament.

He said he heard explosions early this morning. The car was parked in front of his gate.

Meanwhile, the Opposition People's National Party (PNP) said it is saddened to hear about the firebombing.

We condemn this violent act against one of our young citizens who has been making positive change within our inner city communities, the PNP said in a news release.

It quoted Opposition Spokesperson on Youth Lisa Hanna, as saying that she is concerned that this was done in an attempt to send a message to the young man.

While our nation continues to wrestle this monster of violence that has a stranglehold on us as a people, we need to be mindful that our democracy can only be strengthened if we allow our citizens their constitutional right of free speech to thrive in an environment that is devoid of threat, fear and reprisal, Hanna said.

The Opposition is grateful that Mr Lynch was not hurt in the incident and urges him to continue making a positive contribution to our country and not be deterred by this unfortunate episode, she added.
