In recent weeks, the 'land of wood and water' has been experiencing a shortage of the 'life commodity'. So much so, that the annual event, the official Water Party came under threats of not being held.
The promoters of the event, Island Mas, despite pressure from various groups, remained optimistic that the event would be successfully held on this its fifth staging.
Last Saturday night in New Kingston, the Sagicor car park was abuzz with activity, as loyal patrons lined up outside to take part in this year's staging of the official Water Party.
DJ Billy held down the early vibe, building the momentum for what was to come with the increasingly popular Palance. And due to the current water crisis, promoters decided to go foam.
"The situation was a very sensitive one, we wanted to do our part as promoters and be responsible, so while we had access to water, we decided to hold back. The patrons still enjoyed the event, and we got a record turnout," said Andrew Bellamy a promoter of the event.
Inside the car park, jubilant revellers, jumped, wined and waved, as persons made regular trips to the bars, others filling buckets with water and ducking persons in and around the venue.
The introduction of Skinny Fabulous was to have injected a higher level of energy, but that fizzled as he was way below par when compared with his last performance.
Richie Ras took over selecting duties and instantly made an impact with a string of reggae hits from Sizzla, Tarrus Riley and Buju Banton to the delight of the crowd.
An unbilled performer was announced, the crowd waited to see who it was, and to their surprise, Konshens took the stage. And screams from the females could be heard from miles away as he took his shirt off.
After a very energetic performance from Konshens, Richie Ras continued his set, with Richie Loops' In My Cup and Mavado's Gyal A Mad Ova.
Ras later made way for DJ Liquid who kicked off his set with Owl City's Fireflies. Later, patrons were sent into a frenzy as Sean Kingston's Fire Burning and Mavado and Stacious' Come Into My Room were thrown into the mix.
"Despite the absence of water, the party was mad, fun, we, as patrons, were understanding of the situation and we just made due of the entertainment package, it was overall fun," said Yaneek, a satisfied patron.
So in the end, despite all the initial controversy that surrounded the event, promoters were left smiling at the smooth transition of the event, as the fifth staging was said to be the most successful.
