A police constable accused of sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint, was offered bail Monday.
Constable Everton Linton was offered $200,000 bail when he faced the Gun Court Monday on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and assault with intent to rape.
Constable Linton, who is attached to the Motorised Patrol Division, was charged last week Wednesday following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
It is reported that on April 27, 2009, the Constable, who had developed a relationship with the woman, was driving her to a location in St. Catherine when they got into a fuss along Highway 2000.
The Constable reportedly accused the woman of having an affair.
He then told her that he wanted to physically examine her to prove his case, however, she objected.
It is alleged that the policeman pulled his gun and began fondling her against her will.
An off-duty police officer then drove up to the couple and made enquiries.
Constable Linton told him they were having a domestic dispute.
It is reported that the Constable asked the off duty cop to take the woman to a location in St. Catherine.
The woman later reported to the off-duty cop that she had been assaulted and he encouraged her to file a report at the Spanish Town Police Station.
Following an investigation by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) Constable Linton was arrested and charged.
Defence attorney Peter Champagnie told the court Monday that his client strongly denies the allegations that he pulled his gun and assaulted the woman.
Constable Linton is to return to court on April 26.
