Lawyers representing dancehall superstar Buju Banton returned to court yesterday to demand more details on the confidential informant who is a key witness in the case.

Attorney-at-law David Markus told the court that while he has been provided with some information, he did not have enough to cross examine the witness when the trial begins on April 19.

Markus said based on the information he has received so far, the informant has already been paid thirty-five thousand US dollars for his role in helping prosecutors make their case against Buju and could get more if the dancehall star is convicted.

The attorney said the informant, whose name has not been disclosed, could get a portion of any money which the court orders Buju to forfeit.

Marcus, who has repeatedly argued that Buju was set up, claimed he needed details about a tax case involving the informant and details of the other cases the informant has worked on with law enforcement agencies.

Buju, whose correct name is Mark Myrie, has been in custody since last December when he was slapped with drugs and firearm charges.

The reggae icon is accused of conspiracy to posses cocaine and aiding and abetting the possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime
