Teen chops uncle in the face

A 16-year-old juvenile who used a machete to injure his uncle was remanded when he appeared in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court Wednesday.

The juvenile was charged with occasioning grievous bodily harm after he used a machete to chop his 30-year-old uncle Marlon Alexander on the face.

The court was told that on January 18, the uncle accosted his nephew who was misbehaving with other family members and spoke with him.

Minutes after the 16 year old attacked his uncle with the machete resulting in him spending five days in hospital.

Following his remand, officers from the Child Development Agency in St. Elizabeth reported to the court that they were unable to find a suitable accommodation at places of safety as they are all full.

The CDA officer further reported that the juvenile will have to be sent to Fort Agusta until Friday when space will be made available at the Rio Cobre Boy's Home for him.

The Juvenile is scheduled to return to the St. Elizabeth Children's court on March 19, when it is expected that an application for bail will be made.
