MediaTakeOut.com has learned that rapper Guru, who is the founding member of legendary rap group Gangstarr, is reportedly in a critical condition. Word is that he slipped into a comatose state after suffering a sudden and massive heart attack.
Gurus sister Trecia contacted the press yesterday and confirmed that the hip hop legend is in BAD SHAPE. According to her, Guru (govt name Keith Elam), is in a New York hospital and will undergo surgery today.
Guru was considered on of the most gifted lyricists in early hip hop. Hes also credited with fusing hip hop and jazz in a style he called Jazzamatazz.
He's actually recovering from the surgery now. Just got an update via some online news and apparently he's resting now and expected to fully recover. Here is what I pulled from guardian.co.uk.
"The rapper Guru is reportedly "weak" but "doing well" after suffering a heart attack on Sunday. The Gang Starr founder fell into a coma and underwent surgery on Tuesday.
"I am doing fine and I am recovering!" Guru, born Keith Elam, told AllHipHop yesterday. "I'm weak though ... I appreciate your well wishes and all the love." Solar, the rapper's long-time producer has vouched for the 43-year-old's recovery. "Guru is resting and doing well," he said. "The doctors say that he will fully recover from his illness."
