VANCOUVER An Olympic athlete from the United States was arrested Wednesday after a suspected domestic assault, RCMP said Thursday.
U.S. media identified the man as bobsledder Bill Schuffenhauer and said he was arrested after an argument with his fiancee.
RCMP are recommending charges of assault and uttering threats, according to a news release.
Schuffenhauer is expected to compete in Fridays four-man bobsled race.
On his personal website, Schuffenhauer said that earlier this week U.S. Olympic team sponsor Procter & Gamble Co. flew his fiancee Ruthann Savage and four-year-old son Corben to Vancouver to watch him compete.
To be here representing my country and having my family here to share it means more to me than anything in the world, Schuffenhauer said on the website.
Well forever remember this.
He will appear in court in North Vancouver, B.C., on April 21.
