Vybz Kartel will close this year's edition of Magnum Follow Di Arrow, a popular stage show that is widely regarded as an Alliance stomping grounds.
The Teacha's inclusion on the show has stoked the embers of the tension between he and Bounty Killer. However, the Portmore Empire head Vybz Kartel said quietly:
"Ah peace me a deal wid, that's all I have to say on the matter."
But word on the street is that the Warlord is quietly fuming.
"The Warlord nuh like it because Follow Di Arrow has always been a traditionally Alliance show so for him to be on the show is like a diss, ah so the Warlord ah reason the ting, Hellboy shoulden be on the show," one source told Xtra News.
The Warlord is still a highly influential figure in the world of dancehall music after almost two decades at the top of his game. He is credited with nurturing the careers of figures such as Mavado, Predator, Busy Signal, and Vybz Kartel, his former protege-turned-enemy.
"Bounty Killer 'ben' bout it and him ah give out some sound like him nah come, but mi feel say ah just talk," the source said.
Dexton Ennis, promoter of the highly successful ten year-old Magnum Follow Di Arrow, moved quickly to allay any fears in the dancehall public.
"Bounty Killer will be there . I guarantee it, the anticipation around this year's Follow Di Arrow is huge, and the buildup has been incredible. Bounty would not miss that opportunity to entertain his fans who would have travelled all the way to James Bond Beach to see him," Mr. Ennis said.
"I have heard the rumours, but I haven't even spoken to him about them because I know he will be there."
Still, Bounty is renowned for erratic and baffling behaviour at live entertainment events especially when he believes that he has been slighted in some way. Killer's petulance is the stuff of legend. Just a few weeks ago, he brought the charity concert, Shaggy and Friends concert in disrepute after a foul-mouthed performance which shocked the large audience of society bigwigs, international press and other luminaries. Ennis is however a close personal friend who has been at his side during his most damaging public travails.
One of those public travails is his return to Gun Court where his case has been set for trial on March 24. The deejay, whose real name is Rodney Price, is charged jointly with an ex-cop, Calis Bowen.
According to police blotters, the two were arrested in July 2008 following an altercation with an off-duty policeman in New Kingston in September 2007. The alleged beating took place on September 27, 2007 and a high-level probe led to the deejay's eventual arrest.
Price is represented by attorney-at-law Christian Tavares Finson and Tom Tavares Finson. The prosecution alleged that on the night in question, a motor vehicle was used to block the road, and the policeman asked Price and a large entourage of men to clear the road. Further allegations are that the policeman was assaulted and Pryce allegedly threatened him with a gun.
Price is facing charges of assault, unlawful wounding and illegal possession of a firearm.
"Bounty Killer will not be distracted, he will be going all out to represent for Alliance fans," Ennis, who is known for not catering to the whims of artistes, said.
Three years ago, Ennis stuck to his guns when Beenie Man refused to perform alongside Spice at the event. Then days before the show, Ennis advised the public that Beenie Man had removed himself along with Michelle Davis, a.k.a. DAngel, from show.
As the promoter of the show, promoting uniting the music I was not willing to remove any artiste to suit another, from the line up. As a result, Beenie Man has decided that he will not perform at the event, Mr. Ennis said in a release at the time.
