A scandal of immense proportions has rocked a district in Mandeville, Manchester, with a 15-year-old boy in police custody for the alleged rape of his six year old sister.
The youth is expected to be formally charged when the investigating officers find the children's mother.
Police sources allege that approximately two weeks ago, the youth forced himself sexually upon his little sister at their home, while their mother was away. Although no family member went to the police, the matter was reported by a concerned citizen a week ago. The child was subsequently taken by the police to a doctor, who confirmed that the young girl was sexually assaulted.
troubling incident
"This is a troubling incident, as the accused is the eldest of five siblings (three younger brothers and the female complaint) and investigations have so far indicated that the children were frequently left at the home without parental supervision. We are now seeking the mother for questioning, and may be charging her as well," said an officer from the Mandeville Police Station.
After several attempts to apprehend the accused, police held him yesterday at the home. However, they have not been able to locate the mother during their visits to the house.
In the meantime, the police are warning parents that they will be held accountable in cases where they are thought to have neglected their kids.
"These parents must be made aware that they have a moral obligation to their children, and will be held accountable in situations where their gross negligence brings about harm to the child. We will have no pity or remorse for these parents, and the full extent of the law will be implemented against them," said the parish's top cop, Superintendent Lascelles Taylor.
