A St Catherine mother is now facing a possible jail sentence after her 11-month-old baby fell into a pot of hot soup.
The woman, who pleaded guilty to negligence in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court last week, will know her fate on March 22, when she returns for sentencing.
Allegations outlined in court are that in early January, the woman went on an errand and left an eight-year-old and a two-year-old to supervise the infant.
During her absence, the eight-year-old child is said to have removed a pot of soup from the stove and placed it on the floor.
The baby is reported to have fallen into the pot of soup and suffered burns to his hands, head and back. She was hospitalised after the incident.
Following an investigation by the Riversdale police, the mother was taken into custody and charged.
When she appeared before Resident Magistrate Simone Maddix last week, she was not represented by a lawyer.
The court has placed the other two children in the care of their grandmother.
