No word on new Police Commissioner

ImageUp to late Monday night, there was still no word about who will be the country's next Police Commissioner.

It was expected that the new Commissioner would be named Monday, but there has been no indication of whether a choice was made.

But even late Monday evening, there was no confirmation from neither the Constabulary Force or from the Police Services Commission.

None would say whether a choice was made, or at what stage the selection process was in.

For the past three weeks, the Commission's interview panel has interviewed several applicants, including the Acting Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington.

Our news centre had learnt that the Police Service Commission, headed by University of the West Indies Principal Professor Gordon Shirley, had completed its deliberations and was ready to announce its recommendation.

ACP Ellington has headed the force since September last year, after Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin suddenly left the post.

Our News Centre understands that retired Senior Superintendent of Police Reneto Adams was interviewed by the Commission for approximately four hours last week.

It is not known if the senior cop will be offered a position in the force.

Monday, National Security Analyst, Harold Crooks, said both Acting Commissioner Ellington and retired SSP Adams are adequately qualified to get the job done.
