A promoter in Antigua has chosen Vybz Kartel over Bounty Killa after being pressured by their Government. Music News understands that Bounty Killer was not allowed to perform at a show after the Antiguan Government raised concerns about the ongoing feud between rival dancehall camps and their violent lyrics. Nonetheless, the show went on with Vybz Kartel at Paradise Lawn on Saturday. The Government sent a letter saying they would not allow the two artists to perform on the same show.
The letter, according to reports, was received last Wednesday and since then the promoter has been negotiating with the government to allow the main acts to go on.
Reports are that the Government did not yield, but decided to compromise. The Prime Minister decided to allow only one of the artists to take the stage, and the promoter decided to go ahead with Vybz Kartel.
Last week, Antigua and Barbuda Immigration minister made it clear that the island is not prepared to welcome artists whose lyrics carry a violent message.
