Reggae star Buju Banton remains in a South Florida lock up Monday afternoon following his arrest last Thursday.

RJR News reported Sunday morning that the entertainer, whose given name is Mark Myrie, was arrested in Florida by members of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

He was held with two other persons, named as Ian Thomas and James Jackson Mack.

The US District Attorney is charging Buju Banton with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.

Defence attorney David Rowe has disclosed that the federal complaint alleges that three persons including Buju Banton tried to sell cocaine to undercover federal agents.

"The two individuals Mr. Thomas and Mr. Myrie actually cut the cocaine package open inspected it and Mr. Myrie actually tasted it to determine if it was genuine cocaine or not and then left and made further arrangements for the purchase of cocaine and a great deal of this are audio and video taped," Mr. Rowe said.

Defence Attorney Professor David Rowe speaking with RJR's Hotline host Richard Crawford.

And Public Information Officer with the Drug Enforcement Administration Dave Melenkevitz told RJR News this morning the artiste was in court on Friday where his case was mentioned.

He will return to court when he is transferred to Tampa.

"I don't have that information. I don't believe that he will be in court today. I believe he went Friday and he won't get another court appearance until he gets up to Tampa," said Mr. Melenkevitz

He said he does not know when the transfer will take place as that is the duty of the US Marshal.

The artiste, whose album "Rasta Got Soul" was nominated in the Reggae Category for this year's Grammy awards, has been locked in a bitter feud with gay rights activists who claim his lyrics incite violence against them.
