Prime Minister Bruce Golding is to meet with dancehall artistes Vybz Kartel and Mavado today as part of ongoing efforts to put an end to the rift among supporters of the two performers.
For about three years, the Kartel-Mavado dispute has resulted in violent clashes in several inner-city communities.

Earlier this year, men armed with knives and machetes clashed over the Gaza-Gully affair on Mannings Hill Road in the Corporate Area, leaving at least two persons nursing wounds.

Feuding now in schools

The rivalry also moved into schools, with students declaring their allegiance to Gaza or Gully.

Minister with responsibility for information, Daryl Vaz, says the meeting involving the prime minister and the two artistes is scheduled for 10 a.m. today.

Vaz has also not ruled out a peace concert involving performances by the two artistes.

Only recently, Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, extended an invitation to Kartel, Adidja Palmer.

However, that invitation to appear at the same stage show was rejected until yesterday morning when the two performed at a show in west Kingston.
