In a report in today's Jamaica Observer newspaper, Ray Howell - Principal of the Edith Dalton James High School in Duhaney Park, Kingston - has said that the G' culture is destroying schools. He described the G' culture as being Guns, Ganja, Gully, Gaza & Grafitti.
He blamed the degrading music offered by some of the current crop of dancehall artistes for the moral decay in Jamaica's society, and was quoted in the report saying "we are very concerned about what I call the G culture' in schools - the gully, Gaza, the gun, ganja, and the graffiti. This is the worst disease that has come into the school system in my 37 years of teaching. I think that the artistes are creating a negative impact and everyday I have to walk the school compound to check because of the impact of this on the system. It creates a challenge," ... more here.
His statements come just days after news broke about about vendors being removed from the vicinity of schools in the Duhaney Park area of Kingston, because they were selling badges and paraphernalia depicting violent images that are specific to the ongoing feud between dancehall artistes Mavado (Gully) and Vybz Kartel (Gaza).
