DJ Jagga ruled supreme in the quarter-finals match-up against DJ Posey, as the Heineken Green Synergy competition continued last week.
DJ Jagga: I am trying not to make no mistake this time around and I am just seeing how far it will take me.
Jagga was announced as the winner on the TVJ show aired over the weekend.
Jagga has so far done better than last year where he was knocked out of the quarter-final stage by finalist DJ Rohan.
He has shown much improvement this time around and is oozing with confidence, with a burning desire to go all the way.
The DJ from Portland was happy about reaching the semi-finals. "I am feeling good," he said. "I am trying not to make no mistake this time around and I am just seeing how far it will take me."
His mentor in the competition, Donavan Dacres, the original mix master of radio, was equally happy. "We are pretty much ecstatic about it, more is left to come up to the last draw."
Dacres added, "He has the ability so I am just guiding him. We are just coordinating things right now that he is well prepared for whatever is to come."
Meanwhile, DJ Naz from Kingston came out blazing in the matc-up against DJ Super O from Hanover. At the TV show DJ Naz was evidently in a mood to 'war' while Super O came to the war without any 'weapons'.
The show had popular artiste/selector/producer Leftside sitting in as the guest judge. He worked along with resident judges Collin Hinds and Kurt Riley. There was also the fabulous Dance Expression group who along with host Anuscha Mai made the set real vibrant and colourful.
In the first five-minute segment DJ Naz, playing first, set a blistering pace. She made her intentions clear with a 'wicked' intro from Twins of Twins which poked fun at Super O.
Naz then rocked the studio audience with some 'hype' music while displaying some near flawless mixing. She was very impressive, especially when she mixed music from different genres.
Super O started off much slower with some 'foundation' songs including Dennis Brown's Love and Hate. He, however, stepped up the pace and did well playing songs with similar themes.
In the judges' comments, Kurt Riley said that both did well. He said he loved DJ Naz' introduction and advised Super O that in a situation such as this he should get familiar with the equipment because he seemed to have encountered some problems with it.
Leftside also said that DJ Naz's intro was 'mad' and that she mixed clean.
Collin said that it was a one-sided affair and that Naz's mixing was clean.
It was like a lamb to the slaughter in the tune-for-tune segment as DJ Naz tore DJ Super O apart being the aggressor as the rounds went by.
Naz came armed to the teeth playing some wicked selections including: Tanya Stephens' Yu Nuh Ready Fi Dis Yet and Man Fi Get Cuff by Shelly Thunder.
At the end all three judges said that DJ Naz won this segment. Collin Hinds said in particular that DJ Naz came better prepared.
The winner of this encounter will be announced at the TVJ Show on TVJ on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 9:00 pm where DJ Chungy will go up against DJ Absolute in the last quarter-finals. It will be repeated on Monday at 9:30 pm.
To vote for DJ Naz text or call the number 15 at 444- MYDJ or 444-6935, or for DJ Super O text the number 2 at 444- MYDJ or 444-6935. Voting ends today, Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 12 noon.
