Police yesterday recovered two 40 foot containers laden with rice which were stolen during a robbery at a business place at Spanish Town Road, Kingston 11 earlier in the day. Four men were apprehended during the operation.
Police told THE STAR that sometime after midday, three men armed with guns, went to a business establishment at Spanish Town Road where they held and tied up the security guards. They then drove two tractor trailer heads on to the compound, attached the two containers and drove off. The police who were later alerted went in search of the trucks.
About 2 p.m., the trucks were spotted by a covert police team heading along the Nelson Mandela Highway towards Spanish Town. Reinforcement was called and the trucks were intercepted at the Vineyards Toll Plaza. The four men - two drivers and two sidemen - were apprehended. Both vehicles and approximately 1000 bags of rice were seized. The Hunts Bay Police are investigating.
