A Kingston man who was caught selling bootleg DVD movies was fined $25,000 when he pleaded guilty to breaches of the Copyright Act in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Richard Banting, 28, of a Tivoli Gardens address in Kingston, was charged on May 30, after he was caught with 45 bootleg DVD movies. Banting will have to pay the fine or spend 30 days in prison.
The facts are that the police were on patrol along Barnett Street in Montego Bay, when the accused was seen selling the DVDs. He was accosted and taken to the Montego Freeport Police Station where he was charged. Under caution, he said, "Officer, mi jus a juggle."
