Woman says lawman and other man broke into her house
The Office of the Public Defender is investigating allegations that a policeman brought a man to a woman's house and stayed there while he raped her.
The woman, Malia June, a vendor from Cave Valley, St Ann, told THE STAR that in the early morning hours of July 21, she was at home in bed. She said, "Mi lie dung an mi hear like sup'm a move unda mi bed, but mi deh deh still a listen still cause mi think a one rat. Likkle after dat, mi feel like somebody siddung pan di bed sida mi, an mi start wonda if a duppy. Di next ting mi know sumbody jump pan mi."
She said her attacker held her by the neck and threatened to shoot her. She later found out though that he only had a knife. She said the man began to pull at her blanket and she realised that he wanted to rape her. She said because a woman had been killed recently in her community, she begged the man not to kill her and told him she would comply.
heartless incident
After the ordeal, she realised that the policeman was also in the house. She said he, too, came into her room and began searching through her belongings. She said she recognised him as an officer she was familiar with.
Since the heartless incident, she has been in physical and mental torment.
She suffers from hypertension and diabetes and after the incident, her sight, which had been deteriorating, got worse. She is now completely blind. Because she still had her vision back then, June said she still remembers her attacker's face.
She told THE STAR, "Dem mash up mi life. Mi start lose mi sight fast, likkle after di rape."
Grace Miller, a nurse familiar with June's story, told THE STAR that she is aware of her situation and that she is very concerned.
Miller said June has thought about killing herself because she can no longer bear this lifestyle. "She has related the problem to me on several occasions to the point where she has contemplated suicide," said Miller.
A representative from the the Office of the Public Defender said that a report was filed earlier this year and the matter is being investigated.
fear
But that is not much comfort for June. She is now being targeted in another way. She said that men have been using her disability to their advantage and have being entering her house daily, stealing various items and destroying others. This is causing her to live in fear.
The attacks reportedly started after she lost her sight.
June told THE STAR that she just wants to be able to live her life in peace. "I just want to live ... I just want to have a normal life and them to leave me alone," she said.
An officer from the Cave Valley Police Station said he was made aware of the break-ins by June. He, however, said when the police went to her house, there was no one there and there was no evidence of a robbery.
Despite this, June remains firm in her belief. She said no matter how often she changes her door locks, they still manage to get inside.
