Madonna adopting 3 years old girl from Malawi

madonnakids.jpgMadonna is adding a 4th child to her family. "Mercy" is a little 3 years old girl from the "Mchinji Home of Hope orphanage.

She has no father and mother, they both died Madonna has always wanted to adopt a little girl or buy from Malawi so that her son David would have someone who looked like him in the family.

"Many people - especially our Malawian friends - say that David should have a Malawian brother or sister," she recently told Malawi's The Nation newspaper. "It's something I have been considering but would only do if I had the support of the Malawian people and the government."

I, Malaika, am very happy. So many children around the world have no one to love and care for them, and I know that she can't save all of them, but one or even two lives will make a difference. For anyone that has an issue with it, I don't wish you to live one day in that child's shoes!

It is now a 'fad' for these multi-million dollar celebrities to go into africa and buy children. How can anyone defend this? All this empty talk of giving this child a "better life" is over-riding the fact that it deprives a child of their cultural identity by placing them in a foreign and artificial environment. Why not build up the community the child is in instead of removing her from it ? Madonna even expects special favour from the Malawi authorities by waving the normal 18 month assesment period that any adoption-applicant must go through. FIRE!!!
