One MC was over zealous about clashing, the other was nonchalant about it at the 10th anniversary of the New York/Miami Linkup Spring Break 2009 show at Long Bay Beach in Negril on Friday night. In a second attempt following Sting on December 26, Nuffy tried to draw Kingsley 'Ragashanti' Stewart in a lyrical face-off, but he would have none of it.
Stewart, a popular university lecturer and talk-show host, was introduced onstage at 2:20 a.m. and made it clear that MC Nuffy had a problem with him.
"A MC a go come up yah and let uno feel say me and him in a something but when him come up yah with him nastiness uno fi boo him," Ragashanti said as he prepared patrons for the retaliation of Nuffy.
When Nuffy came onstage, he spared no time in making his argument clear. Dressed in a military suit and police vest, he came out with 'guns blazing' as he lyrically attacked Ragashanti, claiming he was invited to the party of controversial comedian Keith 'Shebada' Ramsey.
Nuffy had prepared two dub plates which he played during the performances of female artiste Spice and Kiprich, although both wanted nothing to do with the clash.
Harry Toddler, who came onstage about 4:30 a.m., also steered clear of the MC's clash.
"Let me tell you something Nuffi, me nuh business with you and Raga," he said.
SOLD-OUT SHOW
The event was a sold-out show and patrons partied from 11 p.m. when the show started until 5:17 a.m. when Beenie Man was shifting gears to an obviously receptive audience.
The 38 artistes were apparently too much for one night, resulting in many performers getting a chance to do only one song.
Beenie Man closed the show before the performances of Sizzla, Kiprich, Mavado, Spice and Harry Toddler. Also in performance were Little Hero, I-Octane, Pamputae, Beetle Bailey, Singer J, Gyptian, Captain Barkey and Wickerman, Junior Cat and Nesbeth.
The main sponsors of the event were Mandingo Roots and Tonic Wine and Taboo Erotic Drink, which along with Quick Cash, kept the patrons active with giveaways throughout the show.
