A woman accused of attempting to bribe an immigration officer, after she overstayed in another country, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Charged with bribery is Caroline Newbie.
The court was told that on the day in question, Newbie arrived in the island from the Bahamas. She reportedly handed her passport to the immigration officer, and asked him if he could do something for her. Wrapped among her passport was US$200.
It is alleged that Newbie asked the immigration officer to back date the stamp in her passport, to make it appear as though she had landed in the island before her actual date of arrival. She reportedly wanted to do this because she had overstayed her time in the Bahamas.
Newbie is to return to court on May 5. Her bail was extended and she was ordered to have her fingerprints taken.
