Jamaicans urged not to abort

The Roman Catholic support group Missionaries of the Poor has again made an impassioned plea to mothers contemplating abortion.

Father Richard Ho Lung who heads the group told legislators yesterday that his organisation is in the process of establishing a home for pregnant women in crisis.

The home called: The Holy Innocents Building, located at West Heroes Circle in Kingston, will also provide a facility for children, who would normally have been aborted by their mothers.

Father Ho Lung told the parliamentary committee deliberating on abortion, that the home will house more than 200 children and space is now available for 25 women and their babies.

He explained that Missionaries of the Poor and Food For the Poor have given a commitment that any woman who has been raped or who conceived through an act of incest will be helped by the organisation.

Health Minister Rudyard Spencer who chairs the committee, applauded the Roman Catholic body for its work.
