A St Catherine teen accused of stabbing a girl to death was granted bail in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
Andrenette Deer, 19, of Gregory Park in Portmore, appeared before Resident Magistrate Caylis Wiltshire.
Allegations are that on February 11, she went to visit a male friend with whom she had a relationship. While there a dispute developed between her and Shamoy Montaque.
Chased
The court heard that Deer was chased by Montaque, who was armed with a machete. Deer then picked up a knife from a stall, which she used to stab Montaque on her thigh. The injured girl was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital, where she died. A relative later turned the accused over to the police.
Defence attorney Sean Kinghorn, in applying for bail, told the court his client acted in self-defence, as she was being chased. He said Deer was not a flight risk and if granted bail, would turn up for her trial.
The Crown did not oppose bail, which was granted in the sum of $150,000 on condition that Deer return to court on March 13.
