Dancehall artiste Marlon Lawrence, known in the music fraternity as 'Hitlist', was granted bail in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, where he appeared on charges of abduction and rape.
The court was told that in late January the entertainer saw the complainant in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, and offered her a ride. He allegedly told her that he would be taking the toll road and eventually took her to Port Henderson Road, St Catherine.
It was outlined that he drove the complainant to a guest house, paid for a room and told her that they were going to talk. The woman was said to have spurned his advanced, but she was raped.
After her ordeal, she was taken to Spanish Town and released at a shopping centre where she called her companion and related what happened.
An investigation was launched after the police received information and the entertainer was picked up at a studio along St Johns Road in Spanish Town and subsequently charged.
His lawyer, Earl Hamilton, told the court that his client was a good artiste whose music gave a positive message and that he had contracts for future shows. The crown did not oppose bail which was offered in the sum of $80,000. He will return to court on May 18.
