A number of residents in Ensom City, St Catherine, are living in fear following a series of robberies by a group of gunmen targeting the area.
The latest robbery occurred on Thursday at a shop in the once quiet area. THE STAR learnt that about 8 p.m., four men went to the establishment. While the attendant served a customer, one of the thugs pulled a gun and robbed the shop. They escaped along the bank of Rio Cobre river with the cash.
Robbed children
Reports reaching THE STAR are that the robbers are so desperate that they have even held up and robbed children of their pocket money. Two weeks ago a group of footballers were also held up and robbed of their money and cellphones.
"Yes a top phone dem want. The other day a man and his girlfriend was walking, the gunman dem call him and him run lef di oman. When dem tek har 'flashlight phone' dem just dash it weh and say dem no want no ediot phone," remarked a resident.
A senior police officer at the Spanish Town Police Station said that they are aware of some of the incidents and they are working on strategies to tackle them. The police however are asking that the residents assist by formally reporting the cas
