Being a victim of a robbery can be a nerve wracking experience, but imagine being left in the nude.
This is exactly what Mark Simms, a resident of Linstead, St Catherine, said happened to him recently when he was robbed at gunpoint and left naked and stranded on a main road.
Simms said that a few weeks ago while travelling to Kingston and upon reaching a section of the Linstead bypass about 3:45 a.m., he was forced out of his vehicle by a group of armed men who relieved him of his belongings before ordering him to take off his clothes.
"They took my cellphone which was valued at about $25,000, took about $4,000 cash and a watch ... It seems they didn't get enough money so they made me take off my clothes," Simms explained to THE STAR before adding "I had to walk quite some distance and persons who were driving pass were even laughing at me."
Reports of a few robberies
Head of the Linstead police, Inspector David White, says the police have received some reports of a few robberies occurring in the area but denied hearing that the victims were stripped.
Seemingly in an attempt to highlight what he says is a serious situation, Simms contacted THE STAR on at least four occasions and begged for the story to be published, and also said he knew other persons who have come across the stripping robbers.
"I have heard of at least three other incidents and it needs to be highlighted ... It is a group of about four men who are doing it," Simms said before admitting that he was way too ashamed to contact the police to make an official report.
"Have you ever gone to the police with a report such as that to see how they would handle it?" he asked when quizzed why had he not made a report.
