Teddy Phillips left the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in shock on Tuesday when the allegations against him were outlined.

Phillips, who is accused of assaulting his elderly mother, appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown. The court was told that on December 6, the complainant, who seemed frail and weak when she appeared in court, was choked by her son and during the process, her shirt was torn. He is also accused of threatening his mother.

Assaulting a female

It is further alleged that while at the August Town Police Station, Phillips assaulted an officer. He is facing charges of assaulting a female, malicious destruction of property, damaging an officer's uniform and assaulting an officer.

In an attempt to explain himself, Phillips told the court that his mother had told him some hurtful words. He said, "Words sharper dan knife your honour. She tell mi some tings." In response to RM Brown's question about whether he was on drugs, his response was a terse, "Never."

He also said he did not choke the complainant, saying, "Mi neva choke har, mi jus shake har up."

RM Brown then set the matter for sentencing on December 16, telling the accused, " All right, next week, I will shake you up."
