At Tuesday's launch of Sting the 25th anniversary a lot of milestones were achieved. The event dubbed the 'Final Frontier - The Settlement of All Argument' was arguable the best launch the show had seen in its twenty five (25) years of existence.
The proceedings held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston saw a respectable turn-out with a number of high profile entertainers and corporate execs in attendance, complimented by a cadre of journalist spanning the continents.
Some of those that made the trek included the Portmore Empire members, Vybz Kartel, Blak Ryno, Javinchi, Lisa Hype, controversial female deejay Spice, I-Octane, Captain Barkey and Wickerman, Junie Platinum, Zebra former dancehall first lady Patra and Renato Adams among others.
One of the night's biggest surprises came with the announcement of SSP Renato Adams as head of security for the event. In his speech Adams said he had a database of all the troublemakers and it's not in their vested interest to try to create any problems at the event. In closing he added "everything that begins must come to an end and this is going to be the settlement of all argument... STING to the world it sell off".
Kartel was also a crowd pleaser with his performance of 'Trailor Load A Money', 'Life Sweet' and 'Ramping Shop' alongside Spice but it was his command of the Queen's language that brought the house down when he said "we as entertainers should all try to be amicable towards each other.." among a plethora of other intellectual statements that was greeted with loud cheers and a comment from the far corner of the audience shouting "there he is the intelligent one".
Other speakers included Dr. Donna Hope and his worship Keith Hines, the mayor of Portmore, gospel artiste Goddy Goddy alongside members of the promotional team and sponsors.
Moments later a seven (7) minutes video clip was shown retroactively spanning the history of the event with all its infamous lyrical clashes and confrontation which came to an apex with the highly publicised showdown between Portmore Empire front Man Vybz Kartel and Alliance prodigal son Mavado. Who will win...hmmm I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
The event is slated for December 26th at Jamworld in Portmore, St. Catherine and for those who can't make it to the event the facilities for live streaming will be put it place for subscribers to purchase for more information please visit the official Sting website at www.stingjamaica.com.jm for highlights of the launch see our Gallery
