Rapper k-os Calls On Fans To Remix New Tracks

Wednesday November 19, 2008

Following in the footsteps of Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, Toronto hip-hop artist k-os is encouraging fans to remix his new tracks.

The hip-hop artist released the stems, or vocal and instrumental tracks, of songs from his upcoming album 'Yes!' online for fans to download. They can then come up with their own remixes and submit them for consideration in a companion disc to the album.

There are eleven tracks in all and the winning remix of each will be included on the side album. Also, the winners will each receive a $1000 prize.

"I'm here to introduce you to my music, I'm here to let you take my music -- why I'm doing this I have no clue, I think it's an experiment," the musician said in a video posted online.

"When this idea was brought to me to give my (stems) out to people to mess with my music, I was apprehensive. But I'm also kind of a control freak and I feel like sometimes the best way to conquer these types of freakisms is to let them go."

Among k-os's hits, Sunday Morning, Crabbuckit, and Man I Used To Be.

Website Indabamusic.com is hosting the contest, which precedes the release of the album next spring.
