A 26-year-old pastor attached to the Universal Church of God's New Kingston branch was chopped on the ear with a machete by an unidentified man while he conducted a prayer meeting in the church yesterday.

The attacker was later fatally shot at the New Kingston police post after he used a knife to attack two police personnel shortly after wounding the pastor.

Reports are that the attacker, who was among the congre-gation, used a machete to chop Pastor Alexandre Dos Santos Silva of Brazil on the ear as he conducted worship at the church. This frightening act sent church members scampering for safety.

An alarm was subsequently raised and police rushed to the scene and apprehended the attacker, taking him to the New Kingston police post. While at the police post, the attacker then used a knife he had concealed to attack two police personnel before being fatally shot.
