It would help better or more if I knew what you were doing when the PC restarted and how often it occurs.  But, not withstanding that I would need to know a little bit more I can properly diagnose your problem, there are 6 major reasons for a computer to be restarting on its own.
  1. A virus
  2. Overheating
  3. Faulty memory chip
  4. Insufficient memory
  5. Bad or incorrectly configured software or windows drivers
  6. Misconfiguration of some of you hardware

Assuming you have no viruses the problem could be that your components are overheating, many of the desktops being built these days come with motherboards that will restart or even shutdown once they overheat. Try putting your PC somewhere thats a little bit cooler and also where its less likely to gather dust as this will affect the fans performance. I would also recommend that you purchase a can of compress air, it sells for about JA$500 at any computer store (Computer Royal just to name one). This will effectively clean up your mother board like it just came from off the production line; instructions on how to use the compress air are on the bottle.

If you do have a virus I would recommend AVAST antivirus software that is out performing Norton these days.

If you do have incorrectly configured software or hardware it would mean that your computer would restart whenever you are trying to use the incorrectly configured item. For me to help troubleshoot must first know more details of your case.

Failing all this you need to get your PC check out by a trained professional for further trouble shooting.

Zoners this is also where you come in, help AJ giving him some tips of your own. Feel free also to PM me to on anything you assume that I might have overlooked.

Thats good that you have a "custom built fire wall" coodoos to you. However, as we all might already know FTP, UTP, TCP IP etc .... are not the only route for viruses. The truth of the matter is no one can ever be a 100% immune to viruses; unless of course you are running a Linux platform, which no one writes viruses for. Developers and corporations can only write software for know viruses, which is why researched for new viruses are conducted daily and by extension new virus definitions are out like almost everyday for individual developers.

You may be saying to your self "Then how come mi Anti Virus software work su good even fi new viruses". To point out just a couple of the many reasons for this, is that some virus app are written in a way that they implement some kind of AI technology while others look for particular pattern in app request and execution. Ever notice how some anti virus app picks up a key gen as a virus even when its not. That is because the key gen was written in pacticular way that mimics a virus, hence, the virus alert.

With all that said AJ i hope you've learn something new about viruses and the daily battle between hackers and developers.

However this is not to say that your previous problem was definitely a virus, as I stated before it could be one out of a number of reasons. The fix however is pretty simple once some like my self get a full understanding of what is happening which is sometimes hard to do without some testings. Its like a doctor trying to give a patient a diagnosis over the internet / phone; this is the same thing.
